Post #1: Characterization - Open until Friday, Nov. 14th

Get inside your protagonist’s skin and write both your post and response in his or her voice (1st person).

·         Post = Show your understanding of indirect characterization by describing an event or relationship in a way that reveals your character’s personality through speech, thought, actions, appearance, or effect on others.  Within the same post, show your understanding of direct characterization by specifically describing (and naming) your novel’s antagonist.  Focus on the characters, not the plot!

·         Response = React to another character’s (classmate’s) post in your own character’s voice by comparing or contrasting an experience or feeling they have with your own experiences or feelings.  Be specific and provide details.  Depending on the type of person your character is, you may side with the other post’s protagonist or antagonist.

Don’t forget to sign your character’s name and book title to your post and response.

  1. Honest to God, Lennie an’ me ain’t never gonna be able to settle down if he don’t learn to keep his god damn paws off other people’s stuff. They don’t git Lennie’s jes a big lug with a big heart. Everybody else jes cares bout themselves and their own needs. Sometimes I wonder what that’d be like … I jes gotta keep Lenny outta Curley’s sight. That little punk’s got it out for Lennie.

    1. Look here, George. You’re a nice fella, but you know what you gotta do. Lennie’s jes like a kid and don’t fit into this man’s world. You’ve spent your life lookin’ out fer him, but you’re always gonna be runnin’ to keep one step ahead of trouble. I can tell you from experience that this here ranch is a place where you can make a good name for yourself, make good money, and let loose in town on a Saturday night without any worries. You ain’t gettin’ any younger, George.

    1. Well, at least you've never lit a kid on fire. You've never ended someone's life. It keeps me on edge, wondering,"Do they know?" "What if they knew?" You've never known what a mess is, trust me. I would give everything to be able to start over, start my life in your shoes. Trust me, you don't know what a bad life is, you won't ever know.

  3. I don't know if I can do it. Escape the old me, escape Kip, I'm Wade now, NOT KIP. I'm not in Alaska anymore, I'm in Indiana, now, AWAY FROM KIP. Kip is back in Alaska, Wade is here. Dammit, Clint Johns makes me want to be Kip again, but I can't, I can't go back to the Loon Platoon, NOT AGAIN. Thank God for Dave and Lindsey, they're the only ones that keep me from tipping, the only ones that keep me from lighting up Clint, like I did to Bobby Clarke. The only ones that keep me sane.

  4. I cannot stand living in poverty anymore, I have become so bitter from these horrible conditions. With our parents and the entire middle-aged class gone, I have complete responsibility for taking care of Michael and Tyler. My only choice is to go to Prime Destinations. There, I can rent my body to Enders for money. I can only hope that doing so will get me out of this mess.

    1. Dang girl. That must suck. My parents don't like me that much but having the entire middle aged class gone, that's terrible.

  7. I can't take another day of being sick. People look at me like I'm crazy, because I have to carry this stupid oxygen tank. Augustus Walters always tries to help me feel better but he's a little crazy! Why does he carry those stupid cigarettes? He hasn't even lit one up!

    1. I am so sorry that you are sick. And I think I am becoming sick as well but in a good way. Confide in Augustus because at least you can date him out in public and don't have to hide in secret. I hope you and Augustus stay together for a long time and be happy together.

  8. I started running again and I know Anut said no but I can't help but go by the governor statue to see if Alex left me a letter. We have been spending time together and even though it is dangerous and I might be infected with the disease, I don't care. As long as I'm with Alex and look into his big hazel eyes, I know I will be fine and maybe deliria isn't bad after all.

    1. Oh my goodness! I totally relate. My boyfriend, harry, isn't exactly what you would call, my type. I love him though and I am a little scared to tell my parents about him. His curly brown locks are too much to handle and give me butterflies in my stomach. He has opened me to a whole new world of possibilities! I love harry!

    1. I feel for you, Phillip. Living in a world with only children and the elderly feels very lonely. I sometimes feel as though I am all alone with only my little brother to keep me company. I wish you the best of luck.

  10. I like April in a way I have never liked a girl before. But I am a private person, I don't enjoy pictures of me surfacing up on newspapers and magazines. I just need to get over it. She is too good for me, but I love her too much to let her go.

  11. With felicity gone, i felt lonely at times. Surely there were the guys and cricket and java, but somehow i did'nt feel as connected to them as i had to taz, cricket was pretty quiet and kept to herself, and java was always with jeopardy. I started hiking more and more with sam. He always made me laugh. We spend days hiking together, singing silly camp songs, and goofing around. It was fun to be around someone smart and so uninhibited about everything.

  13. I woke up this morning al wet from the hurricane and by the screams of the neighbors asking for help. I went outside but everything is dark and everything is trashed and muddy. I tried to light my flashlight to help them but the battery is too low and the light's power is poor. But i'm still going to help them. I saw Mr. Ramirez stuck inside the mud screaming,"VERAA". I couldn't believe he was stuck in the mud and that his house was whipped out. How did he ended up from being strapped on a wheelchair, to being stuck in the mud. I went and helped him but he wanted me to find his wife Vera first and help her but I told him i'm helping him first, then i'm going to look for Vera.

  14. I was beginning to get frightened. Frightened meant that deep, sickening feeling if some terrible abou to happen. I was looking at the sky, I had seen the sleek jet, almost a blur at its high speed, go past. I was only fascinated, not frightened at all.

  15. How am I supposed to manage a band that I literally can't even hear? All I know about "Dumb" is that their name is perfect for them, they've won Battle of the Bands, and they're all style with no talent . They also make stupid mistakes like playing for free at school and getting suspended for it. Dumb's guitar player Tash will probably be the most difficult to work with, she's so angry and she doesn't seem to want me to be their manager.
